After the placement of brackets and the initiation of Orthodontic treatment, there are important care instructions that must be followed to preserve aesthetic results, ensure treatment success, and prevent potential complications.

Post-Orthodontic Care Tips

  1. The brackets and bands are placed on your teeth to move them into proper alignment, and maintaining excellent oral hygiene is essential for achieving this goal.
  2. Please brush your teeth after every meal and use auxiliary oral hygiene tools such as interdental brushes, dental floss, and mouthwash as instructed to prevent gum irritation and tooth decay.
  3. Using an interdental brush after your regular toothbrush (three times a day) without toothpaste is essential to clean the brackets and wires.
  4. It is normal to experience mild discomfort in your teeth for 3–5 days after each adjustment session.
  5. During this time, you can consume soft foods.
  6. To prevent irritation of your lips and cheeks from the wires, you may apply orthodontic wax over them.
  7. Avoid eating hard, sticky, or overly sweet foods (such as crunchy crust, dried fruits, ice, olives, nougat, brittle sweets, chewing gum, etc.).
  8. Cut hard fruits like apples and carrots into small pieces or juice them before eating.
  9. Avoid biting into sandwiches or any food directly; instead, place small bite-sized pieces into your mouth.
  10. If you develop a cold sore, please contact our office to reschedule your appointment.
  11. If you do not attend your appointments for more than 3 months, you will be responsible for any resulting complications.
  12. Please note that an additional fee will be charged for reattaching any broken brackets.
  13. Also, the cost of additional treatments such as surgeries, retainers, or other necessary appliances is separate from the main treatment fee and will be the patient’s responsibility.

A simple extraction does not require surgery. After local anesthesia, the dentist uses an instrument called an elevator to loosen the tooth, then removes it with forceps.
